"The gaffer gripped the light while the grip grabbed the dolly."
Confused? Here are answers to a few commonly asked questions.

Continuity:
The person in charge of continuity makes sure the actor's
physical positions are the same from take to take & shot angle to shot angle.
Many times this position is combined with that of Script Supervisor.

Barn Doors: The metal flaps around a lighting instrument that allow you to
control the throw of the light.

Director of Photography: Designs a lighting plan (alone or with a

lighting designer) then utilizes  the gaffer and other key members of the
technical team to execute that plan and to get the shots that turn the
Director's vision into reality.

Editor: Come on now.
Gaffer: This person carves out the technical aspects of a location to
suit the needs of the Director and the Cinematographer. Most often,
the gaffer is the chief lighting technician.

Clapboard/Slate: Actually, the slate consists of the written words
that keep an inventory of all shots. The clapper comes down and
makes a loud sound because when shooting film (and high-end video)
sound & visuals are recorded as separate elements that must be
synced up later. The visual motion of the clapper and the striking
sound allow for this. At left is an old style clapper.
